Has any piece of art or entertainment ever experienced such a critical upgrade after a celebrity death?

I've read several times over the last week that the movie (not the record) was "a masterpiece."

That sure as hell wasn't the prevailing attitude before the Purple One died.

I've never been able to watch the whole thing .....

But there's a lot of respected movies that didn't hold my attention ... or made me wish I had that time back

    :dunno

So... Are we saying that it has edged out "Citizen Kane" and "The Chronicles of Riddick" as the best movies ever made???

    :)

IIrc, Roger Ebert felt that Purple Rain was the greatest rock film since The Wall, or something to that effect.

I have seen much much worse movies. It was pretty good. A lot of the music was masterful. The dancing was pretty cool. Apollonia...nice rack. Overall, not bad. Masterpiece may be pushing it, but I am okay with that. Prince was definitely a master of many things, and that film was a little piece of him...

Yes, for at least the next month or until the next high-profile celebrity dies.

I went to see it in the theater when it came out, I don't recall staying for long, it's terrible, fans just like the music.

Although seeing Apollonia topless was worth a watch, she's hot.

It's a lot better than Graffiti Bridge. The soundtracks to both are great though.

I have a younger brother who was probably 12 when he first saw it and he says it's his favorite movie and that was before Prince passed away.

It was musically fun to watch. It will never be considered a great movie.
