Question about Tejano music and phrasing.

It seems like from listening to alot of it if a soloist decides his solo or phrase should be say 15 bars instead of 12 they just keep going. Its interesting to me since it sounds like it breaks alot of standard rules in American music. Are the rules just different or are there no rules?

The "rules" are: Play your solo over the changes, then end it up with about four more bars of tags. It's kinda like putting four exclamation points at the end of a sentence!!!! Flaco J. is king of the extended tag!!!!
