Hi, I have a JCM900 angle cab and I have a few questions:

    1. is there supposed to be sound insulation in the cabinet?

    2. the G12-75's sound really papery...suggest good replacement?

I have never seen insulation in a stock Marshall cab ?

I am a fan of Vintage 30's on the bottom and H30 on the top ....

    No to the insulation.
65s are a great speaker for that cab.

While you're in there, upgrade the wiring to 16ga., solder the connections, and caulk around the baffle and handles. You'll be glad you did

As far as speakers go that really depends on the tone you're going after.

thanks everyone....really looking for the ZZ, VH, ACDC, Warren Haynes type tones...find those G12-75's too hard to dial in.

thanks Donny, funny thing happened...took the 30th Anniversary Head off the cab, and plugged in my Super Sonic combo and i'll be damned...the fender did the marshall thing better than the marshall...paperyness gone...still might change the works to WGS's..maybe a greeny/30 or 65 mix...the price is right. The super sonic has a stock v30, and with the clean set to 66 bassman...does a wicked jtm45. still gonna do what you said about the caulking and rewiring though...thanks again

Just as a side note... those 6100 heads tend to sound pretty crappy, at least to my ears. Set a nice JTM or JMP on top of that cab and let it rip.

rocks...that head sounded killer when i first bought to...like crazy good...had it on top of and oversized Road straight bottom from the 70's, that was loaded with pre-rola greenbacks...had it in storage for a while, when i took a break...never sounded the same again.
