R8 Binding Overspray

This is something I didn't notice on my R8 for several weeks of ownership, I guess I'm more concerned with playing guitars than checking for flaws. It was after conditioning the fret board with Fret Doctor that I noticed the degree of overspray (at first I thought the Fret Doctor had smeared some finish from the neck). I thought maybe it was just my guitar but I just looked at a 2005 R8 on eBay with exactly the same overspray and it's just on the binding on the neck. Is this a common malady with the Gibson "Custom Shop"?

Here's what it looks like on mine. Doesn't really bother me all that much cause it plays so sweet.

It's not overspray. It's the stain leeching into the binding. Actually, it's intentional. The old ones did that, so they are now using a stain for the back that does the same thing. Gotta' be 'Historically Accurate', ya' know! ;)

I've bought two new Historics and the little manual explains just what JMintzer said. I love those Historics.

My R9 does that. I am not sure, but I think it is lightening up a bit. I hated it when I got it, but after a year of fairly heavy use, I think it's lightening up a bit......

It took a while to grow on me, but it is now my favorite axe........
