Rack preferences - bag vs. plastic

I'm looking at buying a 3 space rack for AxeFX + power conditioner. It needs to be sturdy (obviously) and there is a chance (if I buy a wedge design for FRFR) that it might have to sit on the floor.
I really like the idea of the rack bag with the extra pocket for cables and such and the fact that you can throw it over your shoulder (although it might be a bit heavy filled up?). But, if it does sit on the floor next to a wedge I guess I might be a little concerned something could get damaged.
I'm not gigging yet, just prepping to jam / cowrite with a friend who plays bass. But nowadays when I buy something I try to make sure it will work from basement studio all the way to a gig.
Thoughts?

I've used a Gator 2-space rack bag for over two years now. Works great. I know a lot of guys use a power conditioner but I don't so the 2-space has been perfect.

Here's what I put in the pocket:

2 6' guitar cables
1 30' 7-pin midi cable
1 8' 5-pin midi cable
1 power cable
1 25' trs extension cable for a controller pedal

The cables fit well and they have velcro to hold them in place and keep them organized.

It's been set on the floor, a stool, on top of a power engine...all kinds of places and the material has held up well.

Hope this helps.

I use old school 10 year old plus SKB racks; a 4 space and I have a 6 spacer that I don't use.

They've been through hell and back and still do the job.

Cool... I'm thinking about copying your "small gig" rig to a T. If I recall you are using a power engine (maybe 2?) loaded with an EV12L and/or Scumback H75? I think that might be a great balance of form and function for small time stuff.

I use a 4-space SKB that's probably 2 years old. My Axe Fx only takes up 2 spots, but I like having the extra room inside for cables or whatever else I want to throw in there for transportation. Also, I've got space for any future stuff that may come out that I'd want to add to my rig. I just put 2 black dummy plates over the 2 unused upper spaces in the front. It's been durable and lightweight. I can't complain.

I have a Gator 4 space bag without wheels.

The idea was Furman up top, modeler in the middle, and Velocity 300 in the bottom. But the bottom is now just a blank panel since I never got around to buying the 300. Anyway, I find the bag to be of very high quality and I think it will last a very long time.

I highly recommend using a power conditioner with any digital rack gear. I've seen too much equipment ruined by bad power to ever risk it without at least some protection.

3 space anvil shortie with heavy ball corners and heavy latches. Slides under the seat on flights but stands up to luggage handlers when they make me gate check (rarely). We'll see how it does in Cuba.

I have a few of both but I keep going back to the the hard plastic ones. I think the bag strap is the weak point for me as my gear is on the heavy side. It's seemed like a good idea at the time.

Got one of these on the way , I think I might like.
