Hello TGP. Im a RAT style pedal fan. Im asking for suggestions on a versatile RAT style pedal that will potentially help satisfy my higher gain distortion needs. I dont want an actual RAT or clone beacause I dont like the low end loss. Also, the original can get hairy/fuzzy when pushed and Im looking for something that can tighten up the distortion a touch/low end

I really liked the JHS All American when I had it. Im also interested in the Alpha Dog v2. If you could list some more along those lines (diff clipping, eq abilities, etc..) that would rock.

Already tried SUF Skinner box and Jam Rattler. Good but not exactly what I was looking for.

The Beafoot 4-knob Dyna Red is based on a Rat and is still in the same vein. It has a fourth knob that can add that lower end and fatten things up nicely. It's fatter than most Rats, but I'm not sure in the grand scheme of things is it as fat as other circuits.

The Blakemore ROUS has a three-band EQ to tailor the sound.

    Ruetz mod.
It only takes 1 minute and no soldering skills.

Mau has some good suggestions. My personal favorite is the Earthbound Audio Iron Pig. Currently my main drive!

Somehow it makes me dislike the Rat a whole lot more whenever I had this mod... Both to a big box and a BYOC when I had those modded.

Just grab the Alpha Dog and I think you'll be thrilled. There's a reason you don't see too many Alpha Dog's or Blues King's for sale used. They are tack welded to their boards.

The Basic Audio Shore Bird was pretty cool (I did the Basic Audio Tourbox a while back). I hear the Alpha Dog is good, but I've yet to see a demo that could get me excited about it!

Not sure if you've seen this one. I thought this was pretty good showing all the versatility of this pedal.

The Basic Audio Shore Bird has a fat knob to make up for low end loss.

I used it here on all the guitar tracks:

The ARC Woodcutter / Soothsayer is fantastic. I've got an older RAT and I love the added flexibility of the ARC. TONS of volume on tap too.

I agree. I had it. Again, though the lower end loss bugged me a bit

I might have to give that Alpha a whirl. Don't really see it on too many boards though. Is it that it's not boutique enough?

    How about the FatRat?

Though I will say, I don't get the "I love the Rat but not the low end loss" line of thinking. But that's personal to me I suppose.

Well, I like the cutting, compressed and in your face tone. I like Big Muff/some fuzzes so this gets into that territory too. Some versions just kill your low end.
