Got a little love??
Love them when I was a teen and young adult. It depresses me a little that everyone seems to be waiting for them to save rock music.
(kinda like album fail)
Awesome guitarist, so-so band with often forgettable songwriting. Would any of my randomly selected favorite artists have been able to pull off "Panama"? No - but would any of them have bothered? No.
Waiting for the poll
... I can see this will turn into a VH jealousy thread .....
Very inspirational guitarist with some of his chord progressions and timing skills! ... not to mention the massive tone he got out of that stupid strat and a Marshall!
None - yes really - none.
I love vintage VH and really, really liked most of the Van Hagar era as well.
All of the new clips and live stuff that I've heard...quadrouple meh.
Love them, a truly original band, and along with Aerosmith, America's greatest rock band. I could never criticize the genius. (Well maybe he's trying to pimp too many products but that's a different story).
The poll WAS there
I think it would have been to0 inflaming, too argumentative.
and it was removed
That's my thought
and again I'm saved
Pre-1984 = love
1984 - Balance = like
Best of Vol 1 = love
everything after = tolerate
I woke the other morning with Panama running through my head--I have no idea why. But it occurred to me that it sounds like it could be an AC/DC song, at least the rhythm section, at least the chorus and the verse, maybe not the bridge.
Screw the poll
What I see here is great love for EVHs music
With each new Van Halen thread, I'm digging them a little bit less and less...
I expect the new one to be good, but remember most of it is rehashed old ****. I have those original Warner Bros. demos on CD and yes they were good-for 1977. Don't know if a band has potential anymore if they're doing old **** with new titles, and this coming from a big Eddie fan who has 2 of his guitars and a bunch of his amps. Still, whatever the future holds for them Eddie will still be in the top 5 most influential guitarists of all time.
The bridge is so great, IMO.
Not me. I am not into novelty acts.
The first album was great, a new guy was doing some new things on a guitar. From then on everything was more or less just a repeat of that.
Not that some of their songs aren't good, they always had pretty good production. Panama is a great song.
Also, something else VH started that nobody mentions was the way their studio drums were recorded. They are the first band I know of that the drums were made to sound in a studio like the sound coming out of a massive PA.
But I just never got much out of their actual music.
Absolutely correct re: his position in rock guitar influencing. Very similar to the bass pre and post Jaco.
I still think Mr VH would be smart to find a great singer, and start an entirely different band instead of just running the VH thing into the ground. Either that or join an existing band that needs the boost of his abilities.
Whats good for Steve Morse is good for EVH I would think.
I would also like to just hear the guy do something different for a change. We all know the guy can do blazing notes all over the neck with both hands, many times over. Been there done that. I would like to hear songs he writes that aren't just platforms for his wanking.
Time for something different.
