Can you get a good slap echo from the Boss RE-20? I need at least some of that Sun Studio vibe if I am going to get it.

very good actually. If all you need is tape-sounding slap echo, RE-20 is probably your best option from a pedal. I've only played it once, but I remember the only thing I didn't quite like about it was that the repeats never sounded "present" enough for me. They were a little bit discreet, granted I didn't do much tweaking.

Big time cool slapback echo from the RE-20! It models having three tape heads so you can get either one slap or multi head slap which is very nice.
I turn my treble down a little bit but overall I'm real happy with my unit.
I also use a Boss DM-2 so I have a nice variety of echo tones and lengths.

Definitely a big plus for this. Put it on Setting 1, set the repeat at 12 o'clock and intensity on 1. Great slap back setting.

Also, as an fyi -- leave the repeat/intensity settings, except now select Setting 2 -- great DM-2 simulation for adding a bit of echo/slight delay for fattening up leads.

    Just my 2 cents.
