The Menatone KOB sounds great but is too pricey for me now, the BYOC BIAB does too but I don't have time to build it. What are others in this vein that are closer to $100 new or used?

    Thanks.

you can get a crunchbox for near 100 and it is pretty decent.

Barber Direct Drive or MI CrunchBox are tried and true pedals. My personal vote is for the Barber unless you want the higher gain VH type sounds. The DD has been on my board for a couple years now, and I think it is one of the best drive boxes I've ever heard.

Also consider the cmatmods 'brownie' ($130), since it's basically a bsiab2.

if you have to be cheaper. Marshall GV-2 Guvnor does a great crunchy marshall sound. Its an all or nothing pedal as it doesn't respond at all like an amp would and isn't touch sensitive at all. But if you just want Marshall crunch or sustain, it can be had for pretty cheap.

Which Marshall? In general, the earlier the model, the more expensive the box!

Direct Drive is a HUGE bang for the buck and certainly delivers some very Marshallesque tones. Would still be a great deal if it cost $50 more...

Crunchbox does the Marshall JCM 800 and beyond pretty well.

If you're into building, the GGG BSIAB is great!

I just picked up a Zvex Vextor BOR with some dreaded price lowering Velcro on it for $130.00 in the emporium and it definitely can deliver the early Marshall tones.

Thanks for all the great suggestions.

I've been messing with how I adjust RAT and SmallFry and think I'm getting closer than where I was before to getting some Marshall-like tones. I have a new SD-1 that I'm going to do the Monte Allums GT mod to. Not sure if that will be akin to a BSIAB pedal after that but it will be another color to work with. May still go with a Brownie after I hear what the SD-1 sounds like.

    Thanks again.
