Recommend a Marshall-ish amp for rock and metal 50W or less for under $1000?

Laney GH50L head. They go for very reasonable prices and sound as good clean as they do rippingly distorted. They can also handle really heavy music just as well as you'd expect a modded Marshall 2204 circuit to handle that kind of stuff. Amazing amps.

Used Marshall 205h. Technically a 2 channel amp, but each channel has 3 programmable gain stages so one can get it to behave kind of like a 6 channel amp if necessary. If you are covering that much ground it could do the trick.

I think a DSL with a tube screamer to tighten it up would do what you need. It has a lot of gain.

Other option is a 6505/5150 from Peavey. They are dirt cheap used, and metal machines. You may need a pedal to get into classic rock territory.
