Good things come in small packages. The Dawner Prince Starla is my preferred trem pedal. The fact that it's also among the smallest available is a bonus. Not cheap, but small, full featured, and sounds terrific.

If you like a DIY project, the BYOC Tremolo is a fun build. It doesn't have any fancy features but is a great simple tremolo.

I really like my Suhr Jackrabbit. Haven't really had any others though so take it for what it's worth. Based on demos the Basic Audio Throbby sounds awesome too.

Voodoo Lab Tremolo is another very good tube sounding trem. They can be had used for under a $100. check them out on youtube.

Yeah, the TR2 is one of Boss's better pedals. There's a reason why there hasn't been a TR3 yet.

+1 for the suhr jack rabbit. I've owned the diamond trem, cusack trem and the suhr. My two favorites are the suhr and diamond, and the suhr beats the diamond due to size.

I like tremolos, started with tr-2, then Voodoolab, then Flint, thought I was done searching, until I got my Tremulator.

I've thuroughly enjoyed my short time with the new Valcoder trem boost thing from Catlinbread!

It's got some fun stuff, don't know about Surf though.....

My goto suggestion is Diamond Trem.....

Yet another believer in the Suhr Jack Rabbit. Beautiful sounds, lots of options, solid build and versatile. I'm finding uses in songs that didn't have trem before. I'll often use it as my only modulation pedal.

    Black Cat Mini Trem

Trem can be slight or full cut of sound between notes via depth
    Has a tone knob
    has a boost knob
and has a extra footswitch for either halving or doubling the trem tempo

I haven't seen a better simple trem pedal yet, and I don't know why they seem to never be mentioned.
