I am in a bit of a rut and would like to discover some new bands or artists. I'm going to keep it simple and make a list of people I already like. Feel free to suggest anything, new or old. I've been busy raising kids and have missed a lot over the last twenty years.

    The Jayhawks
    Early Radiohead
    Chris Thile
    Roseanne Cash
    Crowded House
    Arcade Fire
    My Morning Jacket
    Toad the Wet Sprocket/Glen Philips
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit

    Matthew Sweet
    Aimee Mann
    Michael Penn
    Bill Monroe
    Tonic
    The Waybacks
    Cadillac Sky
    Hank Williams
    Oasis
    etc.

    • As mentioned, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. IMO, "The Harrow and the Harvest" is their best release yet!

    • The Wood Brothers newest, "Smoke Ring Halo" is amazing! Ten exceptional songs make this my favorite release of 2011.

    • Drive By Truckers, especially when Jason Isbell was in the lineup.

    • Ryan Adams has a deep discography and his newest, "Ashes and Fire" is really strong.

If you like Matthew Sweet, check out The Thorns (they made one self titled album).
And if you like Toad the Wet Sprocket, you'll probably like Midnight Oil (Earth And Sun And Moon).
Also, what about Bruce Cockburn? Dancing In The Dragon's Jaws and/or The Charity Of Night would be good starting places.
