I am looking to replace the PUPs in my Fender Strat. Currently I have Fender Custom Shop's Texas Special in it. The guitar has maple neck. I am looking for something which will give me some sweet classic rock sound, from Hendrix to Gilmour, and which handles overdrive well (as well as sound good clean). I prefer them to be of decent quality as well.

Look forward to be getting some help here on this,
    Christian

the only brand that ever remained in my strats are harmonic design for what its worth...I use rosewood neck/alder strats with a total knopfler/gilmour style so the HD's work for me better than all the other brands I tried but I'm sure its all totally subjective.

the texas specials are certainly decent quality pickups. what don't you like about them? (this will give us clues as to what direction to point you in.)

I was looking for somehint similar for one of my American strats and after about 10 different tries and a lot of $$$ later I settled on a pair of Lindy Fralin Vintage Hots. Man are they sweet!!! The others that were a close running were Fenders Custom Shop '69's.

I'm a big fan of Angeltone Pickups www.angeltone.com

Ken makes a superb strat pup and has several different models, all of which he can "tweak" to YOUR desired Tone. I've got Angeltones in all 4 of my strats. I've tried all the popular brands, and haven't looked back after discovering Angeltones :dude

Wolfetone Legends. Tell him you want the set he wound for me. Gallagher bridge, Gilmour middle and neck. Try=uly amazing. They make me want to play a strat. I`m a Les Paul/humbucker guy at heart.

I've got Fralin Blues Specials in mine. No complaints,
as they replaced the Lame Sensors that were stock.
I have heard that Fralin Vintage Hot-VH-SP43 is the ultimate setup.

Quick question - what value volume pot would you use with the custom shop 69's?

Thanks for replies so far, some excellent choices to check out. I am not dissatisfied with the Texas Specials, not at all, just want to change the sound a little bit.

    250K for me.

One pickup nobody has yet mentioned is the Detemple Sweet Spot. They are definitely the "sweetest" vintage-output strat pickups I've played. Gorgeous chimey chords, etc.

My favorites, probably in order. HDs and Suhrs I like equally, they're just different pickups.

    1. Harmonic Design Vintage Plus - da shizzle
    2. Suhr Fletcher-Landau pickups - will probably replace the V60LPs in my Suhr Strat
    3. Lollar Blackface - schweet
    4. Duncan Alnico Pro Strat - smoky tone, bell like with snap. Great pup.
    5. Duncan SSL-1 - not as colorful as the Alnico Pro Strat, but still a great pickup; reminds me more of a 50's pup vs a 60's flavor
    6. Fender Custom Shop '69s - is the Abigail magic real?
