I like to learn by watching. Can anyone recommend some good vids for learning how to use a mixer/setup a live sound rig/etc? Any good video series out there?

Recording revolution is a great place to start on YouTube. Lots of good stuff from him. I also like how he stresses so much that all the best gear doesn't matter if you don't know what you're doing. Learn first then buy some gear.

Buy and read the Yamaha Sound Reinforcement Guide.

I heard the book's good but I'm still waiting for the movie. ;)

Nah, I'm slogging through it. It's a tough read. But worthwhile. Just looking for some visual aid to go along.

Very few YouTube tutorial makers are going to bother to create and organize an entire series. Most are designed to explain one concept or issue. So make a list of specific things you need help with and search each one individually (gain staging, building a mix, adjusting monitors, preventing feedback, etc). When you find a good video on a concept save it to your favorites.

On youtube Presonus has some great vids that are applicable to other devices and mixers. QSC has some too but not as in depth as Presonus.

Go to Youtube and search "Dave Ratt". He has a bunch of videos on live sound.
