Good morning. My brother in law lives in Pacific Beach (San Diego) and he's looking for a quality refret job at a reasonable cost. Does anyone have any recommendations I can pass along? Thanks for your help!

Anyone? Looks like SD is a bad place to wear your frets out...

For a job like that, I would take it to the Blue Guitar up the 8 from PB in Mission Valley. I would also recommend the Guitar Shoppe in Laguna Beach, about an hour drive up the 5. I've also heard good things about the repair work at Moze Guitars by San Diego State. Brian at Supersound Music in Escondido might have some good references too. He is always helpful and willing to go out of his way.

Thanks Rotten. I'll check those out. He's got this '80's hamer (Steve Stevens or something) with a Floyd Rose that's his favorite guitar ever, broken headstock repair & all. It has seen better days but he's looking to freshen it up a bit. It can't weigh more than 6 lbs!

Fred at the Repair Zone has been doing my guitars for 25+ years (used to be in the back room at Guitar Trader) - have not had him do a refret / but have taken several high-end guitars to him for setup/fret dressing. Glue set (waterbased) all of my Gretsch floating bridges in place and I took him a custom-made Gretsch "clone" that he narrowed the string spacing (including the bridge) and set it up as fast and low as I have ever seen.

the guys at the repair zone are about the most skilled techs I've ever seen.

I wouldn't hesitate taking any guitar in to them for ANY job.

If you want it done perfectly, no one is better than Scott Lentz in north county. Any one that has played a Lentz will vouch for them. Give them a call, whatever they charge is wort it.
