I picked up this guitar a couple weeks ago. Great player..sounds great. Steal of a price. Local luthier here in Minneapolis built it. I know the guy so it made it easier to pick this up. Anyway, it looks like someone routed it for a humbucker in the bridge at one point and time.

I've been debating on refinishing this guitar and am wondering what to do about that exposed route. Fill it somehow? Pickguard? Just leave everything as is (color included).

    Any recommendations?

Those are old Mini-Hum surrounds that came with Deluxes for a very short time period (69-71??). I had a Goldtop Deluxe that had these, it's THAT guitar I wish I had back that drives me insane that I ever sold; well before I knew that not all guitars (let alone Les Pauls) were created equal, ugh...

Not sure where you can find these in the aftermarket, Allparts, StewMac, check the normal sources I guess.

Good luck, personally I'd just ignore the little cut in there and rock on; looks like a cool axe to me...

Thanks. I'll check around and maybe even start another thread. Seems like a great aftermarket product. kind of like oversized light switch covers for sheetrock holes that are too big. I cant believe everyone does thier routing correctly all the time.

Go see Ted at My Music Store.. fill in the hole with matching wood and finish.. reroute to the P90.

If you love the guitar.. it is more expensive, but it is the "right" fix... That or put a phat cat in there.. it is a a P90 in humbucker size..

Those surrounds/rings aren't very common. I did find some here, but I'm not sure if they're going to be big enough to hide that chisel work.

Yeah, good point, you could plug it and re-top the guitar and make it a flame top; that would be kicking! If it's a keeper it's worth doing it right for sure...

    Happy Playing!

thanks. Everything but creme. I found something similiar at all parts..but I'm not sure if this wuold be the right size. I may have to have someone measure thier mini humbucker to get me the dimensions to see how it compares to a p90.
