I want to record a video of myself playing w my iPad but I want to use an external audio source like fractal rather that an amp and built in mic.

I have discovered that I can plug into the headphone jack and get the audio and the video. Problem is I can’t hear it while I’m playing.

    Thoughts? Ideas? Experiences?

    Thanks in advance

In windows, there is a setting "hear audio live" in the mic settings. Or you can turn it off (if there is too much latency for example). I don't know about iPads

Do you have a way of getting your audio and video into your computer?

I've always kept them separate and then smashed them together after. It's probably not the fastest way of doing things, but it's very straightforward and gives me the most control.

Assuming you just mean the "smash them together" part, either Windows Movie Maker or iMovie is plenty. Both are free with their respective operating systems.

Recently Vincent and I have been making videos. We record the audio to Pro Tools. Vince will clap at the start, which is on the video and the audio.

After, we mix the audio to stereo. I import the stereo file and the video to Pro Tools. I line up the clap, and then bounce\render the video to Quick Time.

    Here is an example:

    Which fractal?
I think the 3 works as a interface for your Apple device. Just need to get the right cable to plug from your iPad into the axefx.

(Won't work in ax8, not sure about axefx2)

Yes. I’m able to go from the FM3 to an irig2 then into the iPad 1/8” jack and headphones. It monitors with no noticeable latency. Sound quality is decent and you can mix the individual channels/frames before uploading a finished project. Also you can collaborate with other musicians.

    Pretty badass.

    Very cool!

Is the finished product landlocked to their server or can you upload to Youtube or download as a video file? Thanks!
