    Hey, fellow "Bearians"

I have the MKE 60 and 120 and love them

I like A/B the 120 for clean and the 60 for dirty

For rehearsal, i only want to use one and set it clean and use a pedal for rhythm crunch. Does anyone know what distortion pedals can crunch this amp out?

I have tried the tonebone classic, hughes and kettner tube factor, SansAmp GT2 so far to no avail

I like the OCD, but not for the high gain rhythm sound
UPDATE - 8/04 The high Gain Rhythm sound absolutely KILLS. I just didn't mess with it enough that day
Does a good job of not sounding to pedaly

You know, maybe this was from before I knew better, but I used to have a Boss Metal Zone in front of my Red Bear. Sounded good to me.

I have an MK 60 that I love. Haven't experimented with distortion pedals on it yet but I use a Burris Boostier sometimes. It's transparent overdrive and really plays up the natural gain of the dirty side.

You are forgiven, my son. Dominus Vobiscum

    Nahh, just playin'.

The metal zone has bit much compression and buzziness for my tastes

I get about as gainy as EVH at the maximum

I am definitely getting the Blackstone and I will keep you posted ast to how it sounds when plugged through one of the Bears

    Thanks for the replies

I've a Mk 120 and like to use a Colorsound Overdriver clone (Throbak) or a Roger Mayer Voodoo-1 or Roger mayer Voodoo Boost.

O.K, I had a Run on the Red Bear MKE 120 w/the OCD.
Guitar and speaker listed in sig line

I like to tweak it w/the Master dimed, while controlling the volume w/the preamp.
So the Amp was deep and clean here:

    Prescence at 11:00
    Bass @ 10
    Mid @2
    Treb@11

I set the OCD on the Low setting for all of the following:

    1. Drive @ 6:00

    Tone
    • @9:00 - Fat, somewhat grainy boost
    • @ 11 - Very Transparent semi overdrive still some cleanliness, Tone is not thinned out at all
    • @12 - Jangly and edgy (smooth highs)

    2. Tone @ 9:00

    Drive
    • @ 9 - Cranked Bassman - seriously
    • @ 11 - overdriven, distorted Bassman or 18 W
    • @12 - Jtm 45-ish just starting to get crispy
    • @2 - Hot rodded JTM or Superlead but at a manageable volume

Don't get me wrong, I know it's still only a pedal, but this is close enough for government work, seriously

I am getting sleepy, but I have a whole page of notes to go

All in all, the OCD is a great match for the Red Bear

P.S. I noticed that the Volume knob on the OCD itself has noticeable effects on the tone. Seems to roll off some of the high end harshness as you turn the other knobs up

    P.S.S.

Perfect Pedal for rollling off on the axe, too

So have you guys been keeping up with the power scaling threads?

seems like this is the remedy for our thunderously loud 60's and 120's

I think I'm going to put my Nike's on and Just Do It.

Once it's done , please post clips. I'm very happy with my MK60 as is. Only thing I did was add NOS 5881's and I'm building a custom cab for it. I'd love to hear how power scaling would sound on it.

I tell ya, I have the blackstone hooked up to the 120 set clean, and it is awesome

It takes that killer shimmering Red BEAR CLEAN (whoops) up to that next level of breakup just above clean without sounding "pedaly". It really can "bassman-ize" the clean setting

I like my amps as is, too - But if I can take that power down so I can get the sweet spots at bedroom levels, I will be jumping out of my skin

You KNOW how loud these suckers are

Thanks! Trying to hunt down some gold corners. The gold piping I had for it wouldn't fit, too tight. I'm working on some pieces to make the piping work. Really gives the amp a cooler vibe. That carpet is the worst.

Well, I just talked to a highly recommended tech and he is investigating and weighing out a possible power scaling job on my MKE's !

    We'll see

I'm gonna be bookmarking this thread!

(I have a mk120 on the way, and an attenuator I can use with it, but I've been curious about power scaling anyway...)

The cleans out of the 120 are drenched w/tone
I would hook up an mxr 10 band EQ to dial out some of that low end or get the Morning Dew EQ to dial some out plus buffer

For going to crunch, I am not particularly sold on the OCD, although it is most palatable

For the semi-dirt, the Blackstone and Timmy Rule and reign through the Red Bear

I am investigating the pinnacle 2 for my rhtyhm crunch and a Plexi-drive is on the way

I am not sure about the 120's being scalable as the dude's sight said it was for 100 and below, but I will check.

My MKE 60 is getting it for sure

    Update

I found someone local to do the mod

We may be replacing the master volume with a Post Phase Inverter Master Vo l(PPIMV) before exploring the power scaling
