I was at both Whiskey shows, the first one was horrible, the second one was much better but as I saw Badlands back in the day with Ray it was hard not to compare them, Ray really was that good.

I hope Jake finds another truly great singer to work with.

lots of really good singers the 80s with great professionalism and skills intact are singing in small places and deserve a second break. i mean foreigner got a singer who brings the foreigner sound plus a lot more to the band today. jake could easily find a singer. however, to sing under the shadow of ray gillen is something a singer has to deal with (and sooner or later a singer will always be compared). but if you don't botch your first show you should be ok.

I dunno... I've got a copy of the March 23rd show from Richmond and all I can say is it was definitely not inspiring.

I saw them in San Antonio, He hit all the notes, knew all the words, but I saw Jake with Ozzy and Badlands. It was lacking.

More to the story. They can't keep referencing that first show as the reason he's bad. He more than redeemed himself.

Definitely something else going on here. Could be he's not a good fit going forward, but it's not cause of that first show. Could be that he had a contract requiring him to stay for a year, etc.

After that first show the couch critics were never gonna give Darren a second chance plus most wanted a Badlands part 2 with a Ray clone on vocals , it was a no win situation

I saw RDC in December and had no complaints about the show whatsoever. The whole band killed it that night.

That said, he came off as a little starstruck with the between-song banter. Maybe they want someone who's more comfortable fronting a band with a legendary guitarist.

My band opened for RDC in November and I got to hang with the band for a bit after the show. DJ was really good that night.

I think this is most likely the case. DJ didn't have a lot of experience as a frontman and didn't seem entirely comfortable with it.

Jake is a helluva nice and cool guy.

I always thought Oni Logan would be a good fit for Jake...

I agree with you. that's just the way most people are gonna judge any singer Jake is in involved with is he is good as Ray or a at least in Rays league and it's wrong. Jakes not using the Badlands name , Badlands and Ray have been gone for over 20yrs, there was only one song on RDC that had a Badlands vibe yet most were comparing it to Badlands.

I point out that Darren (DJ) Smith was the drummer of Harem Scarem, and the new singer Jake gets is from a band called Scary Harry?

Jake has no interest in doing a "Badlands, Version 2.0", and i hope he doesn't end up doing one just because that's what most people want.

It would be cool if he could get someone like Russ Allen, Marc Boals, or Jeff Scott Soto.

I would do whatever makes the highest gate.

    What Journey did.

    Don't re-invent the wheel.

Nobody wants to hear new stuff. (sad, but true)

FWIW-I thought the original singer did fine.

    Maybe other issues were prevalent?

Lack of sleep? It's tough to sleep on the road.

    It can make you grouchy.

Yes, and it's not really surprising, I doubt the pay is livable from RDC, and no one can blame him for wanting to keep his "regular" job.

I've always felt the same! Would love to see it.

The interesting thing is, the article below says former Lynch Mob bassist Anthony Esposito will be filling in for Greg. Add in Oni now!

Interesting. That stinks. Anthony Esposito filling in.
