    Just got the e-mail:

    Particle V2 - coming summer 2018
I started designing the Particle in 2010 and built the first the first batch of 25 in 2011. My goal was to take the techniques of granular synthesis and make them intuitive for live sound manipulation. There have been a few changes to improve production efficiency, but it is relatively unchanged since June 2012. Later this summer we will be releasing a significant update, based around the same DSP platform as the Tensor.

New in Particle Version 2 (subject to change):
    • Stereo in/out (TRS)
    • 1.8 second delay time
    • Soft touch footswitches
    • Freeze footswitch
    • Tap tempo with divisions
    • Assignable expression pedal
    • USB MIDI and firmware updates
    • Additional parameters via MIDI
    • Presets (4 on front, 128 via MIDI)
    • Smoother pitch shifting
    • Higher sampling rate
    • Higher headroom, lower noise
    • Smaller enclosure (3” x 4.6”)
One of my goals is to make it easier for touring musicians to integrate into their pedalboard. For example, it will power up with the previous preset so you don't have to worry about bumping the knobs. You can create more complex granular sounds by combining all of the delay and pitch parameters via MIDI, store it as a preset, and then manipulate the sound live using the Particle's knobs. We will share more information over the coming months.

    thanks,
    -curt

Sounds very cool - particularly switchable freeze & presets.

I was a little surprised to realize that the original came out back in ‘11, doesn’t feel like that long since it came on the scene

I’m excited for this one. Granular hold button should be fun. I hope they put the panda back on.

when i first read this feature — “Tap tempo with diversions” — i got all hepped-up; then i put my glasses on. akkk!

    still, it sounds really good!

I think it needs a level knob as well - lots of settings in the original result in a significant volume drop.

Still - sounds very interesting. Wonder if they'll be doing something similar with any of their other pedals.

Very exciting indeed. There’s definitely a more crowded pedal field for granular synthesis than when the Particle debuted, but I’m excited to see what curt can cook up.

Good lord, between this and the Chase Bliss Thermae, we may have reached the pinnacle of out-there delay pedals... can't wait to see/hear this!

IMO, some sort of tone control too. :dunno

    Why not?

Well, I guess it will be smaller, will have 2 (more?) footswitches - not sure how much more they can fit.

I'd take tone over volume, but that's probably just me.

Either way, I would've addressed both of those "concerns" in a V2. (Also, probably just me.)

There are a host of offerings from people like Montreal Assembly, Pladask, MWFX, among others. Lots of fun to be had.

I sold mine because it was so bright sounding. Lots of cool features, but it didn’t sound very good to me.

well, dunno about any presumably new "pinnacles" having been reached, but it does sound really good & useful to me.

V2 is great! I loved V1 and got great sounds out of it. My favorite combo was the Particle going into Chase Bliss Warped Vinyl, so I could easily adjust volume and tone and give it the extra warble. I always wished there were presets. Voila. I'll get V2, that's for sure.
This is Particle and warped vinyl:

The volume drop was the reason I traded my Particle away. If that is rectified plus a freeze foot switch, that has my interest.
