I picked up a gig with a Country band and need more headroom. I probably
should have gotten the 100 watt version (hindsight is 20/20 right) but I have
always liked dirty cleans. Well at gig volume as some of you know Its hard to
get "clean" cleans with this amp.

What I was wondering is... is there anything we can
do to clean up my preamp or anyone that has found a tube combination that
    gives it more headroom?

I cant afford another amp so hoping to find some Cleaner tubes or something.

    Thanks KD

JJ 6V6's, maybe a cleaner speaker, EV 12L, Celestion Classic lead 80. Also turn down to blackface mode.

I`m on BF mode.. I ve had the amp for over a year I have it dialed in for the cleanest possible sound it can get.
Also useing my 2 guitars with the lowest output pups.

Have you actually tried the JJ 6V6`s in a CD?

Yes, I think they will give you the most headroom, BUT I don't know if it will be enough for your needs. You could call Henry and see if he has any thoughts, what speaker do you use?

Not sure how old your amp is but Henry did have a mod for more headroom. Check out his site

Did this mod to mine. Just checked it is still on webite:
    MagicDust / CosmicDust Mod

This Mod makes Drive #1 smoother and also allows you to run the Master Volume higher on the clean tones.

I have an email in to henry... I dont need pristine cleans just a little more.
How did those JJ`s change the demnesion of your pre amp sound? thanks Budlite

Also I saw that mod on the webpage beerlover that might do the trick.
I`m just not confident enough to do this on my own to such a high dollar amp.
If i take the pic to my local amp guy it should be pretty simple i would think.

    Thanks guys.

As others have pointed out, just ask Henry. He'll figure out a solution for you.

Running the master on that amp can be counterintuitive. You would think that running the amp with the master full up and the input volume down would give the most headroom. Not the case..... You want to find the best combination for your style. The "master" volume does control overall volume, but is truly like a gain stage. Try not running it high. I use the cosmic with a loud drummer and get plenty country clean with "master" at 1 o'clock. YMMV.

Are you currently using 6V6 tubes? 6L6 tubes will give more clean headroom than 6V6.

I find the JJ's sound a bit beefer and a little more like a 6L6, I have also used in a Deluxe Reverb with great results.

Thanks for all the input guys... Talked to Henry and he never fails to AMAZE me with how far he is willing to go for his customers. He gave me a mod idea and offered to send me a Blackverb to BARROW for the gigs until I get the CD to where I want it!
IS THAT NOT THE CRAZIEST example of excellent customer service you have EVER heard.

Henry is THE MAN! He has an amp for you! If you dont own one yet, better get with the program!

Or maybe I should stop tellin everyone how great he and his amps are before everyone is gettin KILLER TONE like me!

What are you running the input level at? I find if I keep it at 3 it stays pretty clean. I mainly use single coils too.

How about running two 6L6's in fixed bias? You can apparently do that with the Cosmic Dust. Should be about 50 watts of glory.

I wouldn't mod perfection. Are you familiar with the new Bad Cat Unleash? Henry's crazy about it. It would easily solve your dilemma.

henry says you can use the line out to slve more power. Get a good poweramp

I got the MDD for the very reason you speak - I've had enough experience w/ too many 50-60W breaking up too early at headline volume in most rooms
