Yes, well the ref had just stabbed and killed a player.

Doesn't make it right, but it isn't as if he just made a bad call.

No wonder the judge presiding over Operacion Puerto destroyed the evidence. Soccer fans are serious.

The World Cup in Brazil should go off with no problems whatsoever.

    Can't wait.

More Escobar-esque incidents to come, maybe?

Fans don't kill referees - psychopaths do.

Interesting...the photo in the link implies that the quartering and beheading drew a red card. By who?

Nah, just novel ways of getting the referee and player out of the game.

There actually are some gruesome pics (and a vid) of the violence on google.

The report I read before this one said it was an "amateur football match." This suggests it was really a local thing, which could have happened in a bar or at any kind of activity. A guy stabbed some other guys' friend to death, and they got him back. Other than the medieval specifics which certainly add a bizarre tone to it, this kind of stuff happens all too often all over, and I just don't see it as an example "fan violence" or "soccer hooliganism."

By the way, did anyone hear that an American professional football player murdered a semi pro player, and now they think it's connected to two earlier people that the player murdered a couple of years ago? I'll bet they're shaking their heads over that one in other countries.

This isn't an example of soccer fan/referee violence? Seriously, guys, you might wanna lay off of the video games. :D

It is if it's what you want it to be.

Yeah, doesn't sound like this had anything to do with soccer/futbol.

My reading comprehension is questionable but this is what I read:

    Ref makes a bad call
    Soccer player attacks ref
Ref defends himself and kills player with a knife
Others take revenge on the ref in a barbaric fashion.

The question here is did the ref maliciously kill the player or was too hyped up and zealous. Regardless, the reason we have laws and such is so that this can be decided in a civilized manner not by mob rule.

Well, yeah, but I think putting his head on a spike and sticking it in the middle of the soccer pitch (like something Vlad the Impaler would have done) was a little over the top...
