Rehabing my Twin's Factory baffle

I have a birch baffle in my 68' Twin now. The original baffle was falling apartso I replaced it. Problem is I don't think the amp has ever sounded as good as it did with the original...seems to be too much resonance with the ply... I'm start to repair the original to stick back in. Anybody have similar findings? I had a Pine ply baffle at first and that was horrible in this amp.

1/2", it' a older Twin... I'm pretty sure the ply is palin birch which is probably the problem... I have a place that I think will have baltic birch... I think I'm still going to re-hab the original stick in back in, get a good pattern and make a new one... I need some of the hardware off the baffle that's in so I need to take it apart anyway. If the original works well I might just leave it in...
