I want to build a switcher pedal using a "plug and play" circuit, meaning when you plug in a cable it turns on, but what I want it to do is when you plug in a cable and the pedal turns on, I want it to trigger a relay that automatically switches the output being used when the cable is plugged in to that specific input. What relay would I use to do this? I assume since I'm just switching a simple signal path I would want to use a non-latching SPDT relay, but I don't know anything beyond that, and even that is just a guess. Can anyone offer me some help?

yup, a non latching relay type. ground it on the jack input (ring) and when you plug teh cable in it will trigger, when you unplug it will 'relax' going back to the other state. yer good to go :D

What about voltages and amps? The one that Mouser seems to have stocked is 5v .5a, is that what I should be using?
