The goal is to get our stuff out there and somehow protect the ideas/music/songs/rights/property...whatever you want to call it. Just wanted to get some opinions on a good approach and platform. Current forecast is zero commercial success...but there is always a chance ;).

The idea is to make it go viral on the internet. So, adding a video with cute cats in it or otters or the like or amusing things happening might help that happen.

Unfortunately, I did not do any of these things for my CD so it's still way below the radar. Maybe if I mention there are secret messages in the music it will get popular somehow.

To the OP, once it's digitized and on the Web, it's out of your control.

I guess the trick is to find a way to make more money from people clicking on it on Youtube, than you'll lose to downloading.

Funny cats are a great idea.

What was the band that had the video of them on treadmills? They made some money for a few months.

Grass roots style. Get out there and play your original songs anywhere and everywhere you can. And then keep doing that over and over.

im not sure on what to do either but im finishing recording for my first album as well and when its done i am going to copyright the material and use an aggregator to get it on Spotify and Itunes.

Im not looking for money, just exposure.

Make sure to register with ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC. That way, at least when/if you get any airplay, you'll get paid for it...maybe.

If you do get the exposure, you might as well get paid for it.

No one is going to listen to, let alone rip off, your music. I'm looking in a mirror right now ;)

My only advice: don't order 1000 physical CDs. If you're anything like me, you'll have 800 sitting in boxes in your bedroom for the next 10 years! :p

Copyrighting is easy - you can do it all online (copyright.gov). You can upload mp3s, lyics, scores, etc.

At the studio, we called those acts members of the "700 Club" - for the same reason... <g>
