I have recently purchased the Fender Monterrey Hendrix Strat. It's a pretty nice guitar. However, it needs a truss rod adjustments and it's the neck side phillips head style rod.

This is first time i've been exposed to such a design. Do I really need to remove the frickin neck to adjust the truss rod?

I am in total disbelief. Please tell me there is another way that doesn't involve taking it apart.

Perhaps I should burn the damn thing. :)

You can just loosen the neck bolts enough to tilt the neck up to get a screwdriver on it.

What an unbelievably bad design. I think i'll send it back. No need for that when nearly all guitars don't require it.

    Thank you though.

Just my strat and my tele and they aren't going anywhere. It's really no big deal. In the time you whined about it you'd be done.

You’re going to return a guitar you might like a lot because you have to tilt the neck up a little to adjust the truss rod every 2-3 years?

Edit: You realize you don’t need to remove the neck or even the strings to adjust it, right?

You might think it's for a Phillips screwdriver, but it's best done with a flat-head screwdriver.
It's an outdated design, so is this a re-issue of some sort?

It’s a reissue of the Hendrix Monterey / flowery Strat that he set on fire. So it’s a 66/67 reissue. All Fenders had heel truss rod adjustments prior to 69? I think?

It’s a reissue of that design, of course it adjusts that way.

It was a bad design. That's why he changed and improved it later. Leo was incredible, but it's not like he was perfect.

And we had all five springs on with flatwound twelves! The neck was uphill both ways!

I have two guitar's with the truss rod on the bottom. No big deal.

go to this site and scroll to the bottom. The long skinny tool works great for those 1/4 turns.

    Great thread.

And yes I find it easier with a flat head.

Yes, see it as a challenge, a chance to learn, an adventure. But preferably you never have to do it (Charvel owner here.. :D)
