    Hello,

Has anyone had any experience in this area and would like to voice their opinions on which they used/sounded good?

Are the stock preamp tubes really that bad?

I'm a tube noobie, which of the three would I replace if I was to get new tubes? Just the first two or all of them?

    Thanks.

If you like the stock tubes, use them.

    or

Start with the preamp tubes and replace the first two. I used Electro Harmonix tubes and am very happy with them.

5751 in V1 is the trick for this amp...

Is V1 the one closest to the power tubes?

    No.
V1 is closest to the instrument input. So if you're looking from the back it would be the small one to the far right.
Try a JJ in V1 to start. It will be the most noticeable. The others not as much.
I have a V55HD which is similar. Just a change in V1 brought it to life.

The one closest to the power tubes is V3. This is the phase inverter for the power tubes. I put JJ EL84's in the power tubes. I like them there. The 5751 in V1 took the breakup point to about 4-5 on the gain dial. With the stock Bugera 12ax7 it broke up around 2-3 and got too gainy/fizzy too fast. I also have a JAN GE 12at7 in V3 so less gain going into power tubes, although I may put a 5751 in there, too.

Have you all done any more tube rolling?

I've got a V55 head that I'm toying with. I'd be curious to hear what other tubes and combinations folks have tried.
