50's bands or modern as long as they have loads of vibe and nostalgia. Some of my current favorites are Mazzy Star, the Twin Peaks soundtrack and Chris Isaak. Send along your favorites!

If you like instrumentals, Get Wilsey's El Dorado. I was in his band for a while.

Morphine. In fact, the first time I saw the bar scene in Fire Walk With Me, I thought the music was them.

Check out the Chicago band Speck Mountain. Very Mazzy Star like. Their sound is dominated by the Reverb/Tremelo of twin Swart ASTs. In other words, it's awesome!

The Handsome Family (their song was used as the main title theme for "True Detective").

Check out Richard Bennett, best known for being sideman for Mark Knopfler. His solo records have a lot of that atmospheric, cinematic vibe.

Check out B11 - my good friend's instrumental trio based out of Boston.

I hope I'm not being too obvious, but are you aware of the David Lunch/Sparklehorse/Danger Mouse project from a few years ago? David Lynch actually sings on a coupla of the songs. Project has a sad history, as Mark Linkous committed suicide during the process. I'm not trying to be patronizing, but if you like David Lynch, it is a pretty cool album.
