Reverb pedals works wonder in front of a clean amp, but not so well if the amp is cooking.
At least those I've tried (boss, wet...)
My amp has no send return loop, it's an old Marshall 4 inputs.
And no, I dont want to use dirt pedals to solve this, the natural tone I get is what I want
Any suggestion?

I've never heard it sound very good. The compression of the amp really makes the reverb sound odd.

what sort of sound are you going for? How distorted do you run your amp?

It seems to me a spring-style reverb into a just breaking up power amp would be a classic sound (such as a Deluxe Reverb), and I seem to recall an Effectology video on the EHX website that was trying to mimic that (probably with a Holy Grail).

I haven't had much luck with ambient reverbs into distortion though, even though I read threads about how shoegaze/post-rock guys sometimes do it this way.

If "natural" is the tone you're going for, then you wouldn't put reverb in front of the amp's distortion tone. In fact, you might not use reverb at all, except very judiciously to create or match the acoustic environment in which you are playing. What style of music are you playing, and in what kind of venues?

the hard answer:
get an amp that has an FX loop and the tone you want

i did that with my BadCat Black Cat 15.
found the tone i wanted, i use my amp gain, and i get to have it reverberating.

This is ultimately the solution, if you want to bypass all the stopgaps and just get right to it.
