Reverb pedals.

allright. So I've had an RV-5 for quite a while now and I love it. Mainly because of the modulation mode. I use hall, spring and plate a bit too but it more like gives me the idea of what it should sound like rather than actually getting me there. So mainly, I'd like pedal which does a nice plate reverb (to pair with my pog). I had the EHX Cathedral and thought the plate was awesome but the rest was crap. How about these?

Strymon BlueSky
Dr Scientist RRR (big box or not, doesn't matter)
Boss RV-3
Line 6 m9 (how are the verbs in that? never liked my verbzilla, is this any different? might be getting on anyway..)
Any delays that do nice "cathedral sounding stuff"? Skrecho?

I like to do some ambient looping but mainly play prog-ish stuff around oceansize, thrice, cult of luna..

Add the WET Reverb to your list. It is a simple 2-knob pedal with a huge array of sounds to choose from. It won't do what the RV5 does in modulation but does have an almost infinite reverb when maxed out.

A lot of folks will say go for the BSR, and it does have the shimmer setting that a lot of folks dig...

Yeah, been thinking about the WET too. How different are the sounds you can dial in? Just because it isn't labelled spring or plate etc doesn't mean it doesn't do it but really how many sounds can you get out of it?

Of all the reverb pedals I read about, or hear about, the WET would top of my list
to try out.

Some pedals give you many different types of reverbs, but the WET focused
on the reverb you will actually use with your guitar.

just to chime in, i played a Malekko Chicklet, Wampler FX Reverb, and Digitech Hardwire today and didn't like any of them. the Chicklet didn't sound like reverb, the Wampler wasn't deep enough, and while the Digitech did a lot, it didn't wow me.

next up are the EHX Holy Grail + and the EQD Ghost Echo. i remember liking the EHX a lot the last time i tried it.

I've always great things about the WET. I'd like to try. Just wanted to give you a heads up on the rv-3...great sounding pedal BUT both a friend of mine and myself have had funky issues with the buffer...when the pedal isn't engaged it randomly cuts off the signal flow...maybe be a fluke, but still...

WET

I have the older "blue" version and I plan on buying the newer "black" version sometime down the road because it has a bit more verb on tap than the blue version and I like the pedal so much that having a second one on hand for another board/backup is a good idea.

holy grail plus Red Volkaert turned me on to it. I think its killer and the other larger holy grail pedals IMO do not sound as good.

I definitely recommend the BlueSky. I didn't know I liked reverb until I got this pedal. So many great sounds and options and with the favorite option, I have two reverb options without reaching down to turn a single knob.

My highest recommendation.

So guys. Basically your summary is:
WET for Lush stuff spacy stuff
Strymon for plate and shimmer
No love for the RRR?

I have a mini RRR and it does a very nice plate. It also has a great boost which is perfect for the end of the singnal chain. I leave my reverb on all the time and set kinda low. I love layout with the input, output, and power on the "top". I think all pedals should be designed this way.

I never had this issue, really.
And the WET is, indeed, amazing. The RV-3 isn't as pretty but can work really well in a filled band mix due to it cutting through so well.

Clean boost alone is worth the price of admission. All the reverbs sound great and add to that the rotary setting and it's tough to beat. My search is over. I "might" look for a small box version sometime in the future.

I liked the plate on the Cathedral too. Replaced it with the Blue Sky and felt the plate was even better. It's why I bought the BSR. For the plate. Shimmer is nice but I rely on the Pog2 for ambient organ type tones.
