Maybe it can even the playing field just a bit for Mom and Pop stores, especially your local brick and mortar Music store.

We all new this was coming, and was just a matter of time.

For those complaining about paying tax on a used item, in most States, you have to pay tax on a private party car sale.

Used gear sales tax is double dipping for sure. It already paid tax.

Actually, I don’t think CME loses in this scenario, since all sellers are in the same boat.

I do find it odd that they'd take a used purchase from a private seller. Hasn't that piece already been taxed once? I'm not tax guru, so maybe I'm offbase.

Arizona's law doesn't go into effect until October. Why are they charging in July?

No item is taxed. A sale is taxed. An item never has its tax "paid" in perpetuity and affixed to it. If you walk into Guitar Center and buy a used guitar, you'll pay tax.

Also, tax is all about you the buyer, not the seller. Reverb will be collecting tax, but the tax itself is not new. Technically, we all should be paying the tax on out of state and online purchases at the end of the year on our State tax forms IF said retailer did not collect it on our State's behalf. If you get audited and you acquired a bunch of assets online without ever having paid the tax, you will owe.

I hate to be that guy, some taxes are a bit much IMO, but it really helps to understand what you are complaining about.

Didn't the Beatles cover this topic back in '66?

    If you play guitar, guitar
    I'll tax your amp
If you try to buy online, online
    I'll tax your mouse
    Cause I'm the Taxmaaaaaan...

Yep. A majority of public school funding is done at the state level.
Adding 7-10% onto every order that goes through Reverb could hurt their overall volume. For instance, many online retailers also sell on Reverb so while they charged tax through their website, they didn't through Reverb so it was a an easy $10 saved....or in the case of a thousand dollar purchase $70-$100.

I'm sure they're keeping an eye on it and have probably forecasted a dip in sales followed by some sort of normalization.

I proudly pay taxes without complaint, and taxing used gear is a tough pill to swallow.

Ambulances are NOT paid for by the state. Ask me how I know.
