Fine, but what about these pickups??
    Who's the source? (Contact info?)
    And the fire??

My mistake. It is RON Thorn, not Pete. He is available through the Thorn Guitars site. He makes his pickups in house, so I imagine you could contact him about what you might like. I made it through the fire and mudslide, but not everyone was so fortunate. It profoundly inconvenienced everyone, but it totally destroyed some. Still, disaster and danger often brings out the best in people, and that sure happened around here. I think everyone involved now has an expanded appreciation of public service workers, especially those who take risks to protect everyone else.

ah, that Thorn. Got it.... I thought they were some new mystery beta pickup since I couldn't find a Pete Thorn luthier. Sometimes it's right in front of you.
Good luck w/ the community rebuild, and enjoy the Esq!

MIM can provide you the straightest ferrules in all the land, tho, I mean, if that's your thing.

If you're looking at the back of guitar enough for those to bother you, you're not playing it enough! ;):D

Mags, was referring to the regular flyby CNC buyer above. Like a Robin in spring you can always count on it.

@Maggie_O I sometimes stare at the back to see if there are cracks because I’ve been told that is how the light gets in.

I do a kind of meditation thing with BP w/Padauk snakehead neck- I press my ear against the upper bout, close my eyes and pluck a string and listen to the note ring and decay as it travels through the body. The different harmonics that come in and out are just amazing and complex and alive.

    I recommend it to everyone.

I used to practice on my Fender P Bass this way @Maggie_O.. The low frequencies don't travel through the air very well when you are unplugged... but put your ear against the body of a PBass and it is glorious....

    here's to an earful!

It's how I've judged most guitars I've bought, that I didn't get online. If it sounds good with your ear pressed up to it, even if the pickups stink, you've got a winner.

I used to judge guitars by the amount of chicks I would pull at a gig. Usually it's 0 to -1. As in, the one I am with leaves me.

Now that I am a man of wealth and taste I moved to more refined and meaningful metrics, such as no. of TGP likes.
