Hi, I'm helping a friend setting up a Rick 450/12. The tail piece is the kind where there are only 6 holes and you double the 12 string pairs in one hole. Unfortunately, I didn't look closely before taking the old strings off. Is there a trick to restringing those? I'm guessing put the thicker string in in the bass side first. then tuck the octave string behind it.

I did try searching to no avail.

    Thanks!

    Pix of tailpiece?

However there is another option for Rickenbacker 450-12 models. Set it up like Fred Smith's. Not uncommon in certain circles.

Try the Rickenbacker forum. Pretty nice, helpful folks there.

I have restrung a few of these, and I install the bass string first, then the octave string.

I don't know that you must do it one way or the other. It just made sense for me to do it that way...

Here's a pic of one just like it, if you notice on the B string, it almost seems impossible that the one put in 2nd will stay there. I'll just go for it as treeofpain suggested- when it's ready, working on other issues with it now. Will report back, thanks.
