Hi Rivera Experts,
Is it worth while selling my R55 112 & buying a Quiana 50 112?
That's a tough one. I loved my R55. I also liked the Quianas that I owned (212 and 112). Overall they are more similar than different.
The R55 cabinet is a bit shallow so a little light on the bottom end.
The Quiana has more bottom end, better reverb, more tonal options due to the focus control and the vintage/modern switch and more gain on channel 1.
The R55 had a bit more Marshall vibe on channel 1 whereas the Quiana seemed to excel at the smooth liquid solo tone.
Since the R55 uses EL34 and the Quiana uses 6L6, you might think that the Quiana would do better at getting a nice Fendery clean. However, Vince Gill used the R100 for many years and got a beautiful vintage clean tone and the R55 will do it as well. I think it is the deeper cabinet which gives the Quiana the edge in the clean department.
I suppose that, overall, I liked the Quiana 112 a bit better than the R55. As always, I would try to play through a Quiana before making your decision.
Try experimenting with speakers...made big difference with the Chubster I had...depends on whether you want to improve the british or american tones.
Thanks for the thoughtful response.
Thanks for the advise.
I really like my rivera with the Celestion gold. You might try that out.
