Allentown Fairgrounds Grandstands ~ Allentown, Pennsylvania

The East-Coast ~ West-Coast Showdown in 'The Battle of the Bands'

Twisted Sister vs. Ratt ..................... support act ~ Lita Ford

Long Hair ~ Face Make-up ~ Flamboyant Outfits ~ Loud Guitars ~ Screaming Vocals ~ Outrageous
~ Part I ~

~ The Lone Ranger To The Rescue ~

Here is what happened on Monday Night {July 16th}

Lita Ford was supposed to open the show at 8:00 PM. Lita had just started touring with
Ratt and Twisted Sister {starting on July 14th in Kingston, New Hampshire}

All '3' bands had played together on Sunday, July 15th at Pier 84 in New York City.

After staying in New York City {Sunday Night}, the '3' bands all boarded their Tour Buses
on Monday and headed to Allentown, Pennsylvania for the show.

On Sunday Night >
The Road Crew's had broken down the stage, packed the gear after the 'Sunday Show', and
headed to Allentown after Midnight {2:00 AM}. The Road Crew's were to travel ahead of
the band members of each group {normal routine}.

The bands were supposed to hook up in Allentown, Pennsylvania at 5:00 PM for Radio
and Television promo's before the Monday Night show.

Well, Lita Ford and her band-mates never showed up. Their Tour Bus had broken down
somewhere in Pennsylvania. But, the Road Crew had arrived in Allentown the night
before with the equipment. On late Monday Afternoon they set up Lita Ford and
her band-mates equipment, and set up the stage, as Lita Ford was the 'warm-up'
act and scheduled to go on at 8:00 PM.

~ The Lone Ranger To The Rescue {Part II} ~

When Lita Ford and her bandmates were stuck on the 'broken' Tour Bus somewhere in
Pennsylvania.

The Lone Ranger {Robbin Crosby} came to the rescue on stage. Robbin and Juan Croucier
{Bass Player} came out in stage to cover for the delayed Lita Ford.

Robbin, Juan and one of the 'Guitar Techs', and a 'Drum Tech' played several songs
to keep the crowd of 5000 at the Fairgrounds Racetrack Grandstands pumped up
until Lita Ford arrived.

They opened with > "Day Of The Eagle" by Robin Trower. The group played a rousing
cover with Juan on Lead Vocals.

This was followed by "Too Rolling Stoned", also by Robin Trower. Again it was an
exciting and powerful cover.

The guys then pumped out "Shoot To Kill", which was a song from one of Robbin's
early bands 'Aircraft'.

The last song was "We're Illegal" > a song that Juan had played when he was with
'Dokken'.

The Lone Ranger {Robbin Crosby} and Friends had come to the rescue for a 25-Minute
fill in.

When it was apparent that Lita Ford would not show, the Show Emcee made an
announcement that Lita Ford and her band would not perform, as their Tour Bus had
experienced mechanical failures.

The stage crew then broke down the equipment, to get ready for Ratt.

Lita Ford and her band did show up in a Taxi, but it was too late as their equipment
was being wheeled of the stage.

~ Twisted Sister Gets Best Of Ratt ~

In the Battle of the Bands between East Coast 'Twisted Sister' and West Coast 'Ratt',
it was the Long Island, New York based rockers who came out on top.

Ratt came on first, as warm-up act Lita Ford did not appear, as the hot chick
Rocker and her band-mates were stuck on their Tour Bus, which broke down
somewhere in Allentown and New York City.

The West Coast Hair-Metal band put on a good show during a high-energy and fast-paced
50-Minute set. Their top songs were "Round and Round", and "Back For More". They
closed out their set with a powerful blast of "You Think You're Tough".

Lead Singer - Stephen Pearcy did a competent job as the front-man, but there was too
much profanity between songs when he tried to ignite the crowd. Co Lead Guitarists
Robbin Crosby {obvious leader of the group} and Warren DeMartini excelled with their
dueling Leads.

Next up, Twisted Sister.

Immediately - Dee Snider, front-man for the Long Island based Glam Rocker took over.

Dee Snider, in an all-out make-up fest complete with 'Rouge Red', got the crowd
spinning with his expert-like on stage antics and raunchy vocals.

Twisted Sister was nothing short of outrageous with their attire, which was led by the
stage banter of their wild-looking front-man.

The band of '5' pounded out a string of solid songs, and had the crowd in the
palms of their hands through their entire set. Glammed up, the band nailed >
"Under The Blade" and "You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll".

When the band's signature song "We're Not Gonna Take It" was played, Snider got
the entire crowd of 5000 to chime in by singing the lyrics to near perfection.

Their 70-Minute set finished up with the popular "S.M.F" and "I Wanna Rock".

In the end, it was Dee Snider and Twisted Sister who took the show battle
honors, as Stephen Pearcy and Ratt were no match for the more experienced
New York Rockers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Robbin Crosby {1984}

We learned a lot about stage antics when we toured with Twisted Sister. In all honesty,
you can't compare Stephen Pearcy to Dee Snider. That's like comparing a Minor League
Baseball Player to an All-Star Major Leaguer. To say that Dee was F***ing outrageous
would be an under-statement. He was beyond, beyond.

I watched Bass Player - Mark Mendoza. He's a big guy like me, and I watched how
he moved and blended in. He had a strong presence on stage, but not over-bearing.
He was a real solid player.

I ended up using some of his stage moves at the end of 1984.

I bought a parts caster strat from jims house of guitars in san diego. It was unusual as it had the thick poly stripped from the neck and maple fretboard. I fell in love with it instantly. It was after the purchase and talking that one of the salesmen he told me it was worked on and or owned by one of the guys in ratt who sometimes helped out there. I thought he said Robin but maybe it was Warren. It wasn't a sales tactic and I knew the guys there and don't think they just made stuff up. Anyone here know if any of the band hung out there or did guitar work sometimes?

Robbin Crosby {October 1984}

You have to present yourself as a Rock and Roll Star. You can't just walk
up on stage and stand in one spot like a stiff Wooden Indian. You have
to light it up.

And if it takes face make-up, teased hair, and tailored costumes to do it, then
that's the way you go. The fans are really interested in how you look. They want
to see you Glammed up. It's all about fashion.

We know the music and lyrics are there for the base mixture. We just add the
fashion as a final topping.

Saturday ~ September 15, 1984

This is before the show with Headliner - Billy Squier at the Nassau Coliseum out
on Long Island, New York.

Robbin had discussed touring with Billy Squier, and how good the guys in Billy's band
were.

Also mentioned, that Ratt had 'headlined' their own show at the Mid-Hudson Civic
Center only 'two' nights earlier in Poughkeepsie, New York on September 13th.

Robbin Crosby >

We play wherever we can. When we are not opening for Billy Squier, we sign up for
our own smaller gigs if we have a day or two off. It keeps us sharp, and we can also
test some other songs.

We played the Mid-Hudson Civic Center to 3100 people. Itw as a quick Sell-Out in a
small Civic Center. The Gate Receipts were around $38,000 {$12.50 ~ Ticket Price}.
We get 60% of the Gate, and the expenses {travel and hotel} are covered.

It's some nice spending money doing these 'in-between' small shows where we are
the main attraction. And we always book a local popular band with us for the opening act.

I demand that, because it is a chance for the local band to make a few bucks and get
some notoriety. I'll never forget where I came from.

Ratt {1984 Concert Poster}

Robbin Crosby {1984 Interview}

I named the 1984 Tour {The World Infestation Tour} and I designed the Concert Posters.

I want an image for the band. There are just too many Hair Metal bands out there parading
around. I don't want us to get labeled as a 'Big Hair Band'. I know over time that will be
a 'Kiss of Death' to any band.

Management {Atlantic Records} is pushing for a Heavy Metal genre. I keep telling them to
push ..... 'Ratt 'n' Roll'.

We are not a Heavy Metal band. Most of our songs have lyrics that the fans can to sing to.
Heavy Metal is more beast-than-beauty.

Stephen {Pearcy} keeps calling our music and style as 'Fashion Rock'. Something heavy,
but with a stylish overtone. I guess that moniker fits.

Ratt {1984 Promotional Poster}

Robbin Crosby {1984 Interview}

I named the 1984 Tour {The World Infestation Tour} and I design the Concert Posters.

It's some nice spending money doing these 'in-between' small shows where we are
the main attraction. And we always book a local popular band with us for the opening act.

I demand that, because it is a chance for the local band to make a few bucks and get
some notoriety. I'll never forget where I came from.
Pretty cool that the scene supported each other like that. As you climb, giving a helping hand to others.

While I was never a Ratt fan back in the day, he sounds alright. It's a shame he's gone.

Ratt {November 13, 1984} Interview

Robbin Crosby

We just came off the road from a 4-Month Tour. We really kicked 'Ass', but
I'm spent. We were on the road from July 2nd -thru- November 10th. We just
finished up {where were we again}. Oh yea, St. Paul, Minnesota.

We pumped out '105' shows in 133-Days. Almost every show we were the
support act for Billy Squier. We did do about '10' smaller shows of our own.

And our album 'Out Of The Cellar' has been in the Top 10 for a long time.
We're only a handful sales of reaching Platinum {1,000,000 units}. Our label
{Atlantic Records} said we should reach that in 2-Weeks.

We're taking about 6-Weeks off. I'm going to hook back up with my girlfriend
{High School Sweetheart} Tawny Kitaen. We have known each other for
7-Years, dating back to High School in La Jolla {San Diego area}.

She's made '2' Music Video's with us {Ratt}. And she posed for both of our
Album covers. I want her to do another Music Video. I have a great idea for
our next song. But she's getting her acting career going, and she's in demand
now. But I think that I can talk her into it. How can she say no to the 'King'.

Robbin Crosby and Tawny Kitaen

November 1984

According to Robbin. After the {Summer/Fall 1984 Tour} ended on November 10th. He
went back to Los Angeles for some rest-and-relaxation {and romping} with Tawny Kitaen.

But the 'skinny' was, that Tawny the Super Groupie was also the mistress for O.J. Simpson.

Still Robbin took Tawny for a few Hotel Romps and a few 'binge blasts' in some of the
upscale Hotels.

An enraged O.J. Simpson was out to stop Tawny from continuing to see Robbin, and he
stalked them throughout Los Angeles.

Robbin got wind that O.J was on the prowl looking out for them. Robbin was then smart enough
to not register in the Hotel under his own name, and he would sign in under Mr. & Mrs. Jones.

But the 'tricky bastard' O.J. had his scouts looking for out for them. One night Robbin and Tawny
had their Limo-Driver {Al Bowman} take them to the Biltmore Hotel.

O.J. Simpson found out that they were there, and he stormed the Hotel Lobby demanding
to know where they were. According to Robbin, O.J. wanted to confront him over his dating
Tawny.

There was a big blow up at the Hotel between O.J. and Tawny. Finally, Tawny left with O.J.

Robbin said that he didn't talk to Tawny for 7-Years {until 1991} after that incident.
