Hi gang,

I'm awaiting the arrival of my first Rocca. I've read alot of the posts already but if you wouldn't mind sharing your thoughts on the amp, sound-wise?, where it falls tonally? Using the two channels etc.... I will be using this along with my Z-28 for a little different sound (I hope). Playing them both through my Z-Best 2x12.

Please help me pass the time away!

Thanks
Brian Steranka

Never played/heard one, but Doug's amps are really powerful and juicy.......I don't think you will be disappointed! :)

I've never seen one of Doug's amps over here on the right hand side (but I don't get out much). Does he have dealers in the tri- state area?

Best, Pete.

If it sounds half as good as the Custom 80 that Marc Ford is playing on the Black Crowes tour right now it will kill. If you want to hear some live clips they have some streaming on the frontpage of http://www.blackcrowes.com.

Anyway, I'm assuming that the 18 is voiced a little differently than the 80, but Marc sounds brilliant and I'm assuming that all Dougs amps sound good! The soundclips of the 18 sound great.

I played a Custom 18 & I love it. The bright channel with the tone about halfway up is ideal for my Jazzmaster RI. It's a case where it's the sound I've been hearing in my head. The workmanship is so stellar it's like a piece of high dollar furniture, & a very nice price for such a fine amp.

I didn't answer your question, & I'll get flamed for this, but it's like a much higher quality Marshall sound (to me). Clarity is the word that comes to my mind. I think you'll get a good bit more head room than the Marshall 18 RI, though I'm not positive about this.

Got my Custom 18 last week. It is got to have the best clean channel around. Channel 1 very clear and bright Channel 2 is litter darker sound great with his Bastard pedal an a FDII. Running mine thru an Avatar with Red Tonkers.

Thanks everyone!

What does the Bastard do? Boost, or more? Besides the cleans, how do you like the breakup? Do you set the amp
clean and drive it with a pedal or two?

Thanks
Brian

The bastard is like a transparent boost that adds a slight gain to the structure. So far I have used channel 1 as straight clean, rolling the tone knob baxck a touch to lessen the briteness. And have used channel 2 with the FDII it has a great break up. when played. I have not cranked up all the way yet. It is only 18 watts but a window vibrating 18 watts.

I had one for a short while. Fantastic sounding amp. With a Les Paul and a JBL D120F, it nails the Duane Allman sound. There were one or two pedals that it didn't take as well as my 18 watt Top Hat but it really doesn't need pedals anyway. With a 4x12, the Rocca 18 is perfect for getting all those classic rock marshall tones. You won't regret your new purchase.

Another amp on my GAS list... my problem is I want an EL34 amp around 20-30 watts and without master volume... the ones that are without master are EL84, and the ones with EL34s have masters...

Contact Doug, as I've seen him post before that he's open to modifying his designs to give someone what they want. It certainly wouldn't hurt to try.

I love my Rocca 18 for classic Marshall tones!

You can custom order an amp like this no problem,
just call, Doug.

Doug made me a HG100 with the ability to go down to 50 and 30 watts. Also he put a loop in for that really works well! He can pretty much do anything you want. I'm saving up for a Rocca-bastard pedal to blast that preamp into oblivion!!
