This looks like it might be a cool amp. Can someone give me the scoop?
How does it sound with EL34's? How much gain does it have? Sound good at reasonable volumes?

Dave, I have a HG100 with a 100/50/30 watt switch and simple loop. Its a great amp with plenty of gain and a very immediate response to pick attack. The master vol. is extremely good. It loves NOS preamp tubes and pedals. I use a sparkle drive, OCD Zendrive and various rangemaster type treble boosters with this thing with awesome results.

With EL34's you get a bit more power and headroom.
More compressed with the 6V6 tubes. Same amount of gain as the HG100's. Sounds great turned down low.

Can you tell me what the OCD Zendrive is like?
Man, I'm so behind on pedals these days.

Hey Doug how ya been? The OCD and Zendrive are two different pedals. Zendrive is a low gain OD with a Voice control that changes the midrange content, some people say it does a Dumble thing but I don't have a clue about that. The OCD is Fulltone pedal with more gain than the ZD and quite transparent.

As you should be. The reason I have loved all the Roccaforte amps I've owned is I never needed pedals to all the tone I wanted. Guitar....chord...amp...speakers. That ALL that's needed with your amps Doug.:BEER

this is one of the coolest amps I've played for high gain. IMHO.. it's the best ulternative on earth for getting that legendary HG100 tone BUT at a volume anyone can truly use. This amp sounds GREAT at realistic volume levels. I loved it with both 6V6's and EL34's. I acutally preferred the 6V6's because they made the amp sound and feel even thicker at home practice volumes. GREAT AMP!!:dude

I understand, but the record project I'm doing does require some nasty tones, but I'm not using pedals on all the tracks.

Doug, when are you going to have some C30 and HG30 clips posted up?

To me, there's not really any virtue in the guitar-cord-amp thing. I mean, if it works, cool, but ultimately it's about making music and however you get there is all that matters.

One of the things I've always loved about Doug's amps was how incredibly well they take any pedal that you throw at them. Total pedal sluts.
I love using pedals with amps--more variety. It's like having as many other "channels" as you've got room for :).

How is the HG18 coming along? How does it compare gain wise and tonally to the HG100 and HG30?

I'm not positive but I think Doug said it's actually a 50 watt amp and has mondo gain compared to the HG100 and HG30.

Is it 50 watts when running EL34's then? It was this post on HC which made me think it was a 50 watter ;

Doug..could you make an over the top JCM 800 type amp , 50 watts.
but more of a metal type voiceing.??

where the saturation starts earlier.??
( with a master ) or maybe two..where they can casscade into each other.??

I was listening to the new 18 watt Bogner sound samples and I was really blown away from the tones with it..but its only 18 watts..

I already build it, its a new high gain model called the HG18,
however, its not 18watts. The OD go's way beyond the HG100,
and HG30. I have one sitting here now, 50watts. Doug

ummmm... pricing?

<drool>

so the hg18 is a 50 watt high gainer correct?

i was lookig at that model but thought at 18w is would lose the low end. if its 50w, that wouldnt be an issue.

all i want is a quality 50w hi gain single channel head with a loop.

-Erik

It comes stock with a pair of JJ 6V6 tubes (30watts),
but with EL34's its 50.
2200.00, loop included. Doug
