Need some advice please.

Other than switching guitars and amp, I need to know what would be the best way to dirty up my tone for Rock tunes. I play Strat and a Fender Amp with Lots of headroom. The only pedal I have to get grit is a Fulltone Fulldrive 2. Its not bad but ..... In playing some standard Rock covers I may need to get another pedal to get me some more distortion to hang with those tunes. I play lead so - I need some help.....

Orange Boss Distortion Pedal $40??
LCD??? $120
Timmy???
Wampler???? and which one?

Thank you!

You might like a RAT, OCD, Crunch Box, DS1. These are all reasonably priced. There are a bunch of other options depending on what you like and what you want to pay.

I LOVE my skreddy lunar module mini deluxe for anything from OD to dist to fuzz. Really can't beat it for dirt.

You can do a lot with a RAT as well as with an OCD. Even the inexpensive Boss DS-1 will get you there.

Tom Petty, Neil Young, ---general rock cover tunes

I think a Way Huge Red Llama would probably work well for those guys. Tom Petty uses one. Cheap, too. A Wampler Black 65 and/or Tweed 57 would also probably work well for what you want, although they are $200 pedals. +1 on the Rat as well. I think you can snag a mini VFE version for $75.

If you already have a FD2 get a good Rat. For classic rock, I think a strat and a Rat stacked for solos is "classic"...

If you're going Wampler I'd say either Pinnacle or Sovereign
Go to GC and try a bunch of stuff and see what you like
Sometimes a cheapie Boss or Digitech will fill the bill

I love my Blackout Effectors Musket Fuzz through my Tele & Blues Jr. Works great for higher end distortion and/or fuzz (can roll the fuzz back and it's just a straight up distortion).

I wouldn't recommend the Timmy into a clean Fender amp, though. I've got one on my board. I use it to kind of fatten up the clean tone, but it doesn't sound very good when running the gain a bit higher. I'm sure there are better options.

Has the day come where you can't play classic rock with a Strat, a Fender tube amp and almost any dirt pedal?
