Rod Magnet Humbuckers

I was wondering what people think of the rod magnet humbuckers? An example is the seymour duncan Stag Mag SH-3. I'm thinking about putting it in a tele neck position for a stratty-type sound but with some added meat to the sound. Or would it be best to just pop in a strat single coil?

I have no experience with rod magnet humbuckers so I guess I'm also asking about the general sound of these type of humbuckers and if anyone has clips or links.

Thanks.

Strat in the neck position of a tele will sound great.Never tried the Duncan or any pole pieced humbucker. It might give a more clear note separation.Chords should have more definition.Just a thought no experience except the strat as a bass pickup in a telecaster.Hope this info gets you closer to your sound!

I apologize i should have stated rod magnets not pole pieced. The Duncan looks promising and it has a nice price.Try it if you already have a route. If not go with the strat 1st.There are many pickup gurus on TGP i am sure you will get your answer soon.Sorry that is all i have.I will check out Youtube for you.To see if i can help with some feedback.

No, no problems. Thanks for the input. I know the in-between position of a tele is great, partly because of the tele neck pickup, but I really love the sound of a strat neck pickup. I know it won't fully be strat sounding on a tele, but it still will sound decently close for me.

I think they are very versatile with a bit more high presence while still retaining much of the overall humbucking vibe. Will you get an exact Strat type tone from it, not really, more kind of a mix of single coil clarity and humbucking fullness.
