A friend of mine salvaged this 12" Rola out of a Hammond tone cabinet.

I'm considering using it in my Alamo Fury for harmonica. Couple questions...

Should I leave the inner cone intact?

The mag is pretty beefy looking. Will it handle a 18 to 25W load?

Are these inherantly clean, or do they break up at all?

    Please advise. Thanks.

If you want to. Give it a try with it in there first. If you like it, leave it. I have a similar Rola speaker to that one, came from a Hammond tone cabinet as well, and I cut the whizzer cone out of mine. It seemed to have too much high end with it in. Like in the region of air. Cutting it out, however, took out some of the high mids and made it a bit darker than I'd like. So you just have to decide for yourself. Either way it's usable, neither way it's great.

Maybe. It's old, so who knows. The only way to tell for sure is to try. My guess would be no. Those old AlNiCo Rolas aren't known for high power handling and since it's old, it probably handles less power than it did when it was new. For what it's worth, however, I had mine installed in a 10ish watt amp and dimed the thing with distortion pedals, and it held up.

Mine breaks up a bit at high volumes.

They're not great speakers, but they're not horrible either. I replaced mine with a Celestion Gold, which sounds much better. I still have the Rola in a box in the Garage. I use it mainly for projects as a test speaker these days.

Here's the coding. I've been reading mixed info on it. Could handle the power... might not.
