Has anyone tried the new Roland Phantom? It looks very impressive. Anyone compared to other arranger keyboards, especially the Yamaha Kenos?

I have the new Fantom 7. Its not an arranger like the Genos. Doesn't have styles or the controls to manipulate the styles and it doesn't have all the acoustic instruments with articulations. You cant roll into a bar mitzvah, wedding or retirement home and lay down 50 classics without a ton of work up front. Fantom has much of Roland's DNA inside combined with ableton like loop sequencer. The star of the show is the filter and easy workflow. The filter is amazing, with high res controls and it seems to bring even the old PCM samples to life.

Thanks, do the Fantom pianos, synths & drums stack up to the Genos? How "real" are the Genos virtual instruments?

As a synthesizer Fantom is significantly deeper then Genos. Genos obviously sounds fantastic...CFX pianos, Revo drums and VCM effects. To buy Genos as a tone generator makes very little sense to me. Super articulation stuff is very realistic so if you need trumpets, clarinets and tubas that are instantly re-callable you will pay the price. Some version of that is likely coming to Fantom.

One more question. Do you find the computer based software instruments such as Main Stage, IK Multimedia, etc. equal the totality of the Geno's instruments?
