I played in a band with a guy for two years who always used Ellis pickups in his Strats. I always thought they were very good, but nothing out of the ordinary. I recently bought a set of his Mid 60s with the hot bridge and my opinion has really changed. I didn't think much of them before because I was playing another guy's guitars through his amps, set up his way; which was waaaay too bright of a tone for me personally. I've tried a crap load of Strat pickups and these have quickly become my favorites. So I apologize for anything I've said that describes Ron Ellis pickups as ordinary, because (for me) they are pretty freakin incredible.
Since there aren't many demo vids of his Strat pickups, I asked my friend Mike (roknfnrol) to demo them. As an honorable mention, I've also recently tried some Manlius pickups which are really great and kinda caught me by surprise. Mike demo'd those on the same day. The fuzz used is an Analogman Sunface BC183.
