a live vid captured on camcorder(pardon the audio cruchiness) from a few weeks ago @ the baked potato here in LA. jamming on the old jimmy smith classic groove "root down(and get it)", a cool 12 bar thingee w/ a little twist.
it's kind of a "where's waldo" deal for me during about the first 1:50 ....

my sound is a robin savoy pro w/arcane pickups, riding the volume knob going into the crunch channel of a diamond phantom, and the echo noize is from an ep-4 echoplex(which i'm messing with during the solo) and a '66 fender reverb unit...plus some hiwatt custom wah near the end.

of gear note, i'm also doing a little stereo amp thing here, using the diamond phantom as my main tone machine, coupled with a marshall silver jubilee.
i'm splitting the signal with an A/DA STD-1 stereo tapped delay(the old holdsworth secret weapon) in the loop of the diamond sending the left and right signals back into the diamond and marshall's effects returns.
my diamond phantom cab is actually TRULY split stereo, with a baffle down the middle, pretty much creating 2 2x12 cabs in one(if i ever need it)....this was my own "idea" that diamond amps indulged for me, and i think it's cool.

hope y'all check it out! :AOK

Wow John ... 'great' playing as always ... a lot of fire ..
Once considered picking up a Robin Savoy ..
how would you rate the split coil sound .. In other words, do you use 'em...?

(Oh, & did you keep the Rio Grandes...?)

dayum! that was in-freakin-credible John. I liked how you kept building the solo up as you went along and then just opened it all up towards the end. loved the delay too! and those bandmates are pretty badass too!

    thank you very much!
it's way cool to be able to jam in those situations, where you get an unlimited amount of time to mess with stuff...
and the guys you're playing with (luckily)don't seem to mind either!
oh, the good old echoplex cannot be denied! :YinYang

thank you...a few friends come out from time to time and record the sets.
they're always in different parts of the club, hence the shot not quite being "blocked" correctly...cut! LOL

thank you so much! that's a really fun tune to jam on.
the robin savoy, to me, is an amazing instrument...think half les paul/half 335. http://www.robinguitars.com/savoy_classic.html
a solid piece of mahogany that's actually carved out and the beautiful maple top is placed on it...killer wood!
the neck shape is VERY friendly, like a warm handshake...with jumbo frets. :YinYang
i dont' have split coils in my savoy YET, but rob @ arcane pickups is making me some 4 conductor wiring pickups so i can do that dealio.
    should be really cool. http://arcane-inc.com/index.html
when i got the guitar, it had some kinda harmonic design z-90 thingees in it, plus the original rio grandes were in the case. both the texas genuine and the barbeque bucker are nice pickups too.
but the arcane stuff IMO is about the best handmade to spec things i've heard.
    jam on!

the drummer is bernard galane, he's originally from austria.
currently an instructor at M.I. and he plays around the LA area quite a bit.
there's always a plethora of great drummers that roll through the baked potato on a nightly basis....good times!:)
