Anyone who saw this in 1971 never forgot it
In 1971 I had been playing guitar for about 10 years already. My Dad never said much about it, asked me what opium den I was playing in next and that was about it.
We saw this together on PBS and he said "Now THAT'S how to play guitar"! We were glued to the set and bonded by a common love and admiration for Roy Buchanan. Yes, I will never forget that "Father - Son" moment.
I'd read about it coming up so we all gathered around my little B&W TV and watched it together. We were blown away! And then the show started.
I went out and started searching for an old Tele that week. And found a 51! I think I paid $125 for it, in those days.
Even the harmonica player was stunned into silence.
What , no love for Nils and his "extended" solo on Shotgun from that probably same PBS special?
When he was on, nobody could touch him, IMO.
