Neil is sounding great, nice and loose in a good way.
I was impressed how good Geddy sounded on "Closer to the Heart". That was a killer for him to sing back in the day and I thought it sounded good in his lower register.
They will be missed.
Thanks for posting that. Going to see them next month.
Cool. I will miss this tour, unfortunately...
They sound amazing.
What the hell has gotten into Alex Lifeson?! He hasn't soloed with this much conviction since the early 80s!
Maybe my only criticism is that the Les Paul doesn't seem to me like the right guitar for the 80s stuff.
Peart is playing less stiffly than he has in years. He seems to have internalized all the jazz/Buddy Rich study to the point where he's more relaxed and natural with it.
There's an enthusiasm onstage in these recent shows that we haven't seen in a long time.
Nothing against the Stones and the Who and Neil Young and Robert Plant and lots of other greats, but Rush and Jeff Beck have raised the bar for rockers in the their 60s and 70s.
He should really play that Strat more.
Not only is Alex playing like he has something to prove, his tone is the best it's been since 1981 or so - those Lerxst amps seem to do the right thing for his tone (maybe they come with a testosterone boost, I don't know).
Anyway, watching them run thru the old stuff in Minneapolis and playing the "Clockwork Angels" stuff with an added spring in their step was cool.
Oh geez, this is one of the best crowd filmed videos I've ever seen. Not only is the video great but the sound is really good too. Bravo to the photog!
Another high quality boot.
Thanks again! Sounding great for old men!
I'll be at the 5/30 show in VA. Can't wait!
Thanks for this. I'll be watching it later.
Saw them in St. Louis...Amazing gig. As I've said in a previous post I was a huge fan growing up..then during my college years I lost touch with them. The St. Louis show was my 4th time seeing them and they definitely played with a bit of swagger and swing. Not as exact in the past but I think that's a good thing. Don't know if it's due to Neil's drumming or what...but they were great. Loved it!!
And Alex did sound great...I want to see a rundown of his gear for this tour because he sounds huge at times...the band as a whole sounds much more guitar driven this time around...Go see them if you can!
Enjoy it while it lasts.
From the musicradar chat with Alex and Chad Smith (RHCP):
Lifeson: I have psoriatic arthritis. I've been dealing with that for about 10 years. Every year, it gets a little more difficult, and it spreads a little more. I take medication.
Smith: Is it for anti-inflammation or something?
Lifeson: I take Humera. There's another drug called Enbrel that's similar. Mickelson's on Enbrel. You inject it every two weeks. It's really super-effective, particularly for psoriatic arthritis. I don't know if I could get by without it. I still have problems, even though I've been on this for a couple years now. I just find playing now, on a show day, my body gets really sore. It's a little too much. I'll still go out; it depends.
If I'm regular with my workouts... I've hit the gym every day since we've been here, for a week now. I have my fingers crossed that I can keep it up. Even if it's for half an hour, just get on the elliptical, or on the bike, do a little bit of weight stuff. It helps so much in just keeping you a little stronger and less fatigued.
As you get older, my God, it becomes so difficult. We lose it so quickly. You just have to be disciplined about what you eat.
Here is another R40 show in very good quality.
