Should be number one on the list, this one.
Man my jr. high school crush...snif,snif.

It's really lovely, that song.

Ok, since that list is heavy on the modern pop tat (I'm usually defensive of lists with a lot of modern pop in them but I'm not having sodding Robbie Williams in the thirty saddest ever songs) let's throw some actual quality pop onto the pile: this song slays me every time, so many great lines in it.

And some vintage pop - does it get sadder than this?

If you wanted a track that simply sounds like sadness, this must surely be it:

I have really vivid memories of this closing Baz Luhrman's Romeo & Juliet and my friend and I reeling out of the cinema with 'I'm not crying, you're crying' expressions on our faces, and shedding a tear or two at Glasto '97 when they played it:

And lastly this one, my personal saddest song. I don't know what it is, but I can barely listen to it, I just clicked on it finding the video to post and immediately thought no, not listening to this right now. Nina does sad music incredibly well generally, but this one sticks a knife in my heart.

I agree!
Jayyj was referring to Johnny Cash covering Hurt. That whole album is so incredibly sad that it took me a few tries to get through listening to the whole thing. The choice of songs combined with the sound of his voice told the story of a man who was worn down to the bone, ill, missing his dead wife, regretting some of the ****** things he'd done in his life, and basically coming to terms with his own demise... it's all there in it's rawest form.
