Stumbled (literally) into The Broken Spoke last night and Heybale was playing. I know who Redd is (and thought I knew how good he was) but I'll be damned if I've ever seen anyone better. :BEER

And btw, he was playing through what looked to be an old solid-state Peavey!

He plays moving chords like other do single-line leads. What a great experience our first night in Austin turned out to be. A guy named Buzz Evans was playing pedal steel and just killing it. Got to meet Redd and Buzz and I just can't figure out how he plays what he does with them sausage fingers.

A friend of ours showed us the town (she was Billy Gibbon's old girlfriend back in the day) and I can't recommend this place any more highly and if you play guitar then you should pay the airfare and go see Redd play.

Spend a long weekend in Austin once and caught both bands that Redd plays with. He's truly at the top of the mountain, in any genre. My jaw was on the ground the whole time. Supremely musical with a great sense of humor and ridiculous chops.

That solid state peavey sounds purty good huh?

When I had a corporate event in Austin a couple years ago I knew just who I wanted for one of the nights entertainment, Heybale. It was like booking Redd for a private gig, I was in heaven, Redd couldnt have been any nicer either.

You summed it up perfectly. He's a gentleman too, on top of being an incredible player.

Redd is fantastic. He seems to be getting into Danny Gatton territory with the ability to pull a million things out of thin air during the course of a solo. Loved the keyboard playerin that clip as well, outstanding solos.

As far as I'm concerned Redd is the best guitarist on the scene today. His playing, tone and touch are all impeccable. If I ever become 1/1000th of a guitar player he is I'll be a very happy man.

I'm a huge Redd fan, I have all the cds, and I bought the instructional DVD and the last concert DVD, the man just constantly blows my mind.

It's impossible to go see Redd perform and he not put a smile on your face.

I asked him if he would come play on a track on our new record. He was gracious, enthusiastic, and really, really great about it. And he came in, was set-up in just minutes (small pedalboard and a blackface vibrolux), and absolutely killed in 3 takes. Was done inside an hour.

He's not just a remarkable player, but a pretty good friend. Funny, and loves to talk gear (teles, amps, pedals) whenever. A few times when I've been to see him around town, if he has a 'new' tele, he'll just hand it to me on a break or after the show - "Whaddya think about THIS one?"

We're SO lucky to have him in Austin.
