Saw Scott play last night at La Ve Lee in Studio City, great show. Got to speak to him prior to him playing, very nice guy.
During his performance, he had his right foot on top of a small pedal on his board, which only had one large knob on it, which he manipulated with his foot. He had his foot on it most of the set. I didn't get a chance to ask him about it later. Anyone know what that pedal is? It seemed to control amounts of gain/feedback.
Appreciate any response from someone who may know the answer!

I know he uses a ZVex Fuzz Factory unit you manipulate with your foot. He talks about in a demo vid on Xotic effects website.

That knob is actually a volume knob. He's had it for years and rides it all the time. Its basically a master volume for his whole rig. For whatever reason he prefers twisting a knob with his foot over a traditional Wah style volume pedal.

    Scott is the man...

Also back in the early 90's Tribal Teck Days - when he was doing the Synth ick up thing - He rode a blend pedal that was similar to blend his guitar tone with his synth tone... and like Mike^ said - He is the man with a unique technique!

Actually that knob is controlling his wet dry mix for his FX processor.

I saw him some yrs back and also noticed this. I also thought it was his volume since he has noted in interviews that he could never get used to using a standard volume pedal for swells.

very nice guy, I chatted with him a bit after the gig. WAY talented and tasty player/musician.

    edit...see linky below for explanation

Ok so based on that pic it's not volume...otherwise why would he have a FV-500 sitting there?

Yes! It's a volume knob that is like the volume pot on a guitar. Controls input level and hence gain.
I saw him use it about 15 years ago with TT in SF.

No, it is not a volume control. It's in the FX loops of his amp. The SE processor is set to 100% wet, and that volume knob controls the wet/dry mix of FX in the amps loop.

The diagram above is an older setup, but similar to what he's doing.

JCM800 is correct, it controls the amount of FX he has going so basically he turns up for lead stuff and down for rhythm.

"The amp effects send goes down to the purple box which has a 50K pot for subtile changes in volume, then into the Boss FV500L volume pedal for more drastic volume sweeps."
