I responded to this "seems to good to be true" deal yesterday with an "I'll take it", and got the following response. It reads like a scam, would be interested in other's opinions.

    http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/msg/2854909555.html

    "Hello

The product is available and it is in perfect condition working great.First of all I can't make this deal face to face because I am in United Kingdom. I work as investigative reporter and I am here to make a documentary about the orphans kids. I want to continue this transaction through a 3rd part Elite Courier...I am in England and I have talked with the people from Elite Courier already. The item is at them ready for delivery and I paid for the taxes and fees already.I worked with them in the past and everything was fine.I posted in your area also because I want to sell it fast(we need money). Please let me know if you want more info about the delivery process.

    Thank you"

The ad has been flagged for removal. Any time I see a "3rd party carrier" I get suspicious. Their response seems to be put together better than most scams, but who knows.

But he's reporting investigatingly on the orphans' kids. Really, I hope he sheds some public light on the lack of birth control options for orphans these days.

The "orphan kids" and "elite courier" were the key tip offs to me, otherwise, well crafted and reads like a "deal of a lifetime".

The product (can't exactly remember which scam this is) is available and it is in perfect condition working great (because I know this what you want). First of all I can't make this deal face to face because (I'm a chicken **** thief) I am in United Kingdom. I work as investigative reporter and I am here to make a documentary about the orphans kids (surely you trusthat I am an honest and good person now). I want to continue this transaction through a 3rd part Elite Courier. (so that I am sufficiently removed from prosecution). I am in England and I have talked with the people from Elite Courier already (they are me, or a least i made them up in my ****ed up head). The (make believe) item is at them ready for delivery and I paid for the taxes and fees already. I worked with them (because they are me) in the past and everything was fine. I posted in your area (can't remeber where this scam was posted) also because I want to sell it fast (we want your money). Please let me know if you want more info (I can make plenty more **** up) about the delivery process.

I'm finding scammers are getting a little more creative when phishing for email addresses. Instead of the standard "is it still available" a 1/2 hour after you post your ad, now they stupid lowball you to get a response. Ignore.

Exactly. And sign-up for a "disposable" email address that you can abandon when the spam flies in. Use that for CL until it gets crazy, then open another.

I have a second email address set up only for CL. I'm also getting more cautious about the meet up and transaction. I'm trying to have more phone conversations, and when power isn't needed to try something, find a public spot to meet. It's a jungle out there.

Why hasn't the OP been banned, the thread locked, and apologies emailed to the guy who placed the ad from gear page management over this?
