Hi

Can't find tabs to this solo from the Powerstation and I love what he is doing in this. Can anyone school me in what he is doing. I am too much of an amateur to figure it out

Straight up E min pentatonic played in 1st position at the 12th fret -- the fast stuff is just chromatic runs right in that box pattern. Awesome solo - awesome tune.

No pentatonics and no chromatics (not in the studio version anyway).E dorian in 12th position: G- F#- E on the thin e-string (that's 15-14-12 for you tabreaders and fretcounters), D-C#-B on the b-string (15-14-12) and 14-12 on the g and the d-strings.There's also an F# and a C# at the 11th fret on the 3rd and 4th strings available in that scale. However, those would put you out of position, and he (Andy) doesn't play them. You could also see it as your 12th fret position E-minor pentatonic with F# and C# added on the e and b strings.Caveat emptor: I only listened to it once, and you may be referring to another recording.

No you're probably right - I was referring the memory of playing it in a band several years ago. :D

Highly underrated guitarist and it took Power Station to make me finally realize, "Hey them boys can play their ass off!" Awesome tune and I too have looked everywhere for tab to this same solo for years. I'll have to try this soon.

Another interesting Andy solo that is very close to Bang a gong's chromatic scale is Belinda Carlisle's Mad About You. He's even sporting a green anniversary Gretsch (my favorite) in the video.

I was a million miles away from the stage for Duran's reunion tour but I finally got to see Andy live (shortly before he left the band for good). Man can that guy play! He must have gone to the Steve Stevens school of move-your-ass too. Just a cannonball live.

If you ever get a chance check out the recently revised cd/dvd edition of Power Station's first album that includes the hard to find 30 minute doc. of the making of the album from MTV. Live in the studio with Banard Edwards! What an amazing group of talent. Slackjaw!

Here ya go. I did this while watching Star Trek - but the notes are 98% accurate. The timing is not accurate because I am no expert with the tab notator I used but you should be able to nail it after this. Slow it down and listen to the solo to get the actual timing and feel of the fast bits - there are some slurred notes in there.

I think it was G6 or something... I had to take a screen shot of the tab since it wouldn't let me save the work unless I bought the software - which I was not too fond of. So actually I tossed out that program I used for this and I then googled a bit and found that TUX GUITAR and Guitar TabX 1.3 are pretty easy to use and Tux Guitar is free. I am on a mac - OS X.6.4

@spakuloid What the odds of you reposting your tab on this? Ive been playing around with the 12th fret postion you guys talked about but I would to compare my noodling qith what you had figured out but now your image has been removed from the site it looks like. If not, I undertand but if so, I'd love to make a comparison.

Wow so close yet far away lol Interesting question that I'm looking into now, there's got to be a better way than to link to another site. I'll message back with the answer and if you never hear from me again, I never figured it out haha Thanks for the quick reply though, I appreciate it...ok I better see what's what I guess

Just saw in a different post on this forum

"upload the photo to https://postimage.org/. then I paste in the code" so I tested out uploading a pic and it was fast, easy and produced a link that can then be added to comments

I'll see if I can find a more direct solution but that's one way

as crazy as it sounds, reading conversations it seems like the sight might have removed the function that would allow a direct upload/post like one easily finds on like facebook or twitter, not sure why but I'll keep looking for a work around.
